Abstract
This is the final thing I had to do a simple reflection paper, It required me to be honest with myself about my progress, about my AI use and its just overall the closing statement to every essay I did in this semester, I am proud at how far I have become and I hope I can keep doing what I do in the future.
Self assessment essay
Throughout this semester I have faced many challenging assignments. Reading and writing weren’t my strongest skills and I often struggled with them during hs. I think the reason for my struggles is because it was boring to me. Reading about Othello was interesting but writing an essay after it was just a nuisance to me. So I stopped trying to pursue assignments and just see them as face value just assignments. This made assignments boring and just obstacles in my way , so starting college I didn’t really expect anything just the same boring stuff , but going to Meaks class kind of renewed my point of view, when Prof Meaks started talking about poems and initial emotions behind them and when we analyzed the many meanings that were present it made me realize that writing can be used to convey hidden messages about how I feel , whether the mental aspect I was in or my feelings about the topic. So I started writing and writing but fell short and took some shortcuts, sometimes AI. I know it wasn’t good or healthy but I was trying to balance everything work, college and my own personal life so I used it. But as we progressed through each assignment added a new style for me.
One of the assignments that I really enjoyed was the Ecoliteracy Narrative. It was the first major in this class, so I thought I had to be organized with my thoughts and be well articulated but when I learnt that it was informal. It introduced a new style of writing piece that was fully open to whatever emotion I put into it. The task for this assignment was to write our thoughts about nature, what it did it mean to me , who influenced that relationship , what I want to accomplish and if I want to better my Connection with Nature. So I just wrote and wrote unfiltered thoughts and it made me feel something more proud of my work. So when I learnt that was our first draft I had an easy mindset. I wasn’t stressing the assignment because I wasn’t expecting perfection just to organize my unfiltered thoughts. After this assignment I noticed my heart started to open to writing more and I kind of enjoyed it.
I fell short this semester but thanks to my professors both of them who were patient with me one way or another I bounced back. I owe gratitude to them because they were the ones that didn’t punish me for using shortcuts like AI but instead gave me chances and time to figure everything out. They taught me how to act with people from now on. That I need to give people chances and be fair because they might be going through a hard time. Now since the semester ended I feel like I am better now in terms of everything. My vocabulary improved, my critical thinking improved and my love for writing also improved as well. This can be seen throughout my major assignment I became more descriptive in my writing, I learnt how to cite websites correctly, tried MLA format and how not to use AI and learn group work through them. I am very thankful for this semester, and it taught me a lot of things that I am going to take with me in the future.
